According to legend, the island was created by sailors who over the centuries submerged stones and old ships at this site, gradually building a solid foundation on which a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary was erected.

The Church of Our Lady of the Rocks houses an exceptionally valuable collection of votive objects, silver plaques and icons brought as offerings by sailors and fishermen. The interior of the church is adorned with an impressive collection of over a thousand votive silver plates, as well as canvases by the renowned Baroque painter Tripo Kokolja. The island is located opposite the town of Perast and is accessible exclusively by boat, making the visit even more special.
